Copy This Idea – it’s the Sunday Times Business Best Seller book everyone is talking about. When launched, it went straight to number one. In hundreds of branches of WH Smiths it became number one in the Non-Fiction and Business’ charts too. (In fact it knocked Steve Jobs biography off the number one slot – no mean feat in itself).
Yet Copy This Idea is far from being a traditional business book. Author Andrew Reynolds says “I was asked by John Wiley and Sons, to write Copy This Idea. It’s about how I made money starting from my spare room at home. I set out to write a book that wasn’t full of charts and graphs, wasn’t full of cutesy business phrases and pseudo-intellectual theoretical nonsense. Instead I wrote a simple to read book, detailing my journey from start up, to banking over £50Million. This was all based on an idea I learned on a trip to a seminar a few years back.
Out of the blue I was invited to an event – not just down the road, but 5,000 miles away in the USA. I managed to get time off from my full time job and at the last minute boarded a plane to fly to the event. Jetlagged and wondering if I had done the right thing I arrived. I’d spent about £5,000 on the credit card to be there, with tickets, air fares, cabs and hotels etc. I found myself sat near the back of a seminar hall listening to various speakers talk about how they made money .
Now Copy This Idea has become a Sunday Times Business Best Seller – for the second month in a row.
One guy though caught my attention when he stood up and gave a presentation called “How to make $30,000 a month working from home”. I was hooked! I wrote down everything this guy told me. A few days after the event, I flew back to the UK and promptly handed my notice in at work.
I started with no customers, no products, and no idea what I was doing really. All I had was this ‘idea’ that I had seen over there and which I just knew in my gut, was an idea that was right for me. I just knew this guy was on to something and I had a feeling I could Copy This Idea in the UK.
Friends a family told me I was nuts. My boss thought I was an idiot, giving up a solid stable job (one that I hated though and was so pleased to be out of).
Undeterred, I pressed on. I tweaked the system. I tried things out. One year after I had seen this idea, my little business pulled in £67,798.36. The year after that went up to £393,000…then over £2million… then £2.9…£5.3..and up to a staggering £7.8million in one year!! In fact, since starting I have pulled in over £50million. That’s all from following that one idea and taking action to get started in my spare room at home.
In Copy This Idea, I have written down my journey and shared what it is that I did. In fact it’s what I still do today in my business, that I run from my laptop and my smart phone.”
