Andrew Reynolds – Disability Initiative Charity 35th Birthday with a Royal visit

Camberley based Disability Initiative Charity recently celebrated its 35th Birthday with a Royal visit by the Countess of Wessex.

In addition to being its birthday, the charity also celebrated its first ten years in its own purpose designed and built disability centre, in the town centre, originally opened by Prince Edward and his wife, the Countess.
The Charity started out in 1975 as the Camberley Association for the Disabled, to support physically disabled people in the area.

The countess toured the centre and met with local businessman Andrew Reynolds who is a keen supporter of the Charity and has helped by funding not only much needed equipment but also by providing additional funds to pay for additional activities including trips to London and theatre workshops in the local Camberley theatre.

Andrew Reynolds said “I am very proud and pleased to work with DI and to have the opportunity to see first hand, the benefits that the funding provides for DI’s varied clients.

During her visit the Countess was shown the IT suite and the interactive whiteboard that Andrew Reynolds purchased for the charity. This interactive board – linked to PCs in the training room, was ably demonstrated by clients at DI – who took a picture of Andrew Reynolds and then using the skills they had been taught in their digital photography lessons, used Photoshop to turn the photo of Andrew Reynolds into an Elton John lookalike – complete with huge glasses, a bow tie and glam rock platform shoes – much to the delight of the Countess and assembled dignitaries – and the embarrassment of Andrew Reynolds.

During the presentation Andrew Reynolds mentioned that he is planning to support a new initiative for the charity. To be announced that afternoon. More news to follow….
